Children who drop out of school almost always have parents who dropped out of school. Children who are successful in school almost always have parents who were successful in school.
Literacy is a family legacy handed down from generation to generation. A family approach to education that addresses the literacy levels of both parents and children is needed if we are to increase the chance of a child''s success in school.
Families That Work / Even Start receives federal, state, and city grant monies to support the mission. The program is designed to strengthen literacy skills within familiies and promote school success. Familtes That Work and Even Start Programs work with parents who need to improve skills to read, write, and compute well enough to get a job at a living wage, or to help their children succeed in school.
Renton Families That Work / Even Start brings these programs together, integrating the components into a seamless program:
Adult Education
Parent Education
